Rock-solid motion tracking that’s 100 times more power efficient.

Sensor fusion. Everyone’s touting it as the necessary ingredient to fully enable the value that 9-axis sensor systems bring to the mobile world. While what exactly the “it” is varies widely, most agree that there are three criteria for brilliant sensor fusion.

  • It needs to work in all conditions, never mind the obstacles.
  • It needs to work without hogging up excessive power and CPU performance needed for other functions.
  • It needs to work without hamstringing manufacturers with a limited choice of sensors.

PNI’s robust sensor fusion algorithms as used in our SpacePoint technology is known to be some of the very, very best in the business.  While other suppliers of sensor fusion have embedded the algorithms as software on to a microprocessor, PNI leapfrogged them by configuring the algorithms into a powerful hardware state machine in the new Sentral Sensor Hub chip.

  1. The new Sentral Sensor Hub, a tiny, custom IC that uses less than 1% of the power a general-purpose microprocessor was designed with EMMicroelectronics, the power saving experts at the Swatch Group.  This chip dramatically reduces power usage by offloading sensor management and fusion calculations from less efficient host CPUs or sensor hub microprocessors onto an ultra low-power IC. A mere 1.6 x 1.6 x .5 mm in size, it’s the secret sauce in freeing up CPU power. Visit the Sentral product page for more details.
  2. The Sentral chip will provide the most reliable motion tracking with your 9 axis sensors. Its fusion algorithms — derived from years of work providing high accuracy heading in military systems and PNI’s deep knowledge of magnetic fields, makes sensor outputs impervious to magnetic interference. It stays on track correcting for gyro drift. It uses constant, invisible calibration instead of relying on intermittent ‘user’ calibration routines that leave a device vulnerable to in accurate heading and subpar motion tracking. Visit the Sentral product page for more details.
  3. The Sentral chip works with the sensors of your choice; it supports a wide variety of gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetic sensors from multiple vendors. There is no need to implement and manage multiple software sensor fusion algorithms from your sensor suppliers.  The Sentral makes it simple and easy to design in 9 axis sensor fusion in all your devices. No need to write or load new software every time you change a sensor vendor or a sensor configuration. Visit the Sentral product page for more details.
